It’s that time to start training for another, OR MAYBE, your first half marathon! Come join us on June 26, 2010 for the 9th annual Slacker Races, which hosts three different races: the Slacker Half Marathon, the Slacker Half Marathon Relay, and the Slacker 4-Mile Run! Don’t be misled by the name because if you can run a half marathon, or any distance at high altitude, you are NOT a Slacker!
Given Clear Creek County is the home of the Easter Seals Camp, the Slacker races are open to runners and walkers of all abilities and ages, and there is NO deadline to finish! Cyclists trail the course to make sure all racers are doing okay and not left alone!
The Slacker Races begin at the Loveland Ski Area, through a Forest Service trail to Bakerville, down a frontage road to Silver Plume, along the bike path to Georgetown, and then through the streets of the historic town. Along the way you will be taking in breath-taking scenery: natural waterfalls, scenic views of the Continental Divide, mining remnants, bighorn sheep, the Georgetown Loop Railroad overlook, and historic landmarks and buildings! For rookies, it’s a great first half-marathon, as it is 2300 feet downhill! Yahoo!
There are two different events in the relay race, both great choices for families
wanting to participate in a fun-filled event:
• #1 Get any three people to break up the half marathon distance. OR…
• #2 A team of three has as its second participant a physically challenged
racer!
The Slacker Races benefit three very important charities to our Clear Creek community: the Mount Evans Hospice, the Clear Creek-Gilpin Animal Shelter, and the Youth Empowerment Program.
We thank our sponsors as we couldn’t do it without them: Clear Creek County, the Town of Georgetown, Loveland Ski Area, Clear Creek Emergency Services, Tommyknocker Brewery, the Forest Service, Al Frei & Sons, St. Anthony’s Hospital, Henderson Mine, Pepsi, the Clear Creek Courant, and of course, The GOAT, KYGT-FM, the Voice of the Clear Creek Valley!
Registration is open now, so sign up online at www.slackerhalfmarathon.com to take advantage of early registration discounts! Or call 303-519-0357.
Thanks and we hope to see you at the races! Run ON Slackers!
